Album Review

What's more fun than gratuitous nudity, fistfights, and raging punk rock? The Dwarves' 2006 release, Fefu: The DVD of course! The group -- led by singer Blag Dahlia and masked-guitarist He Who Cannot Be Named -- have been utilizing all three aforementioned "elements" in both their live shows and in the studio for several Presidential terms by this point. With just about every veteran rock act compiling a DVD's worth of classic live footage during the early 21st century, why shouldn't the Dwarves be allowed to have some similar fun (especially considering their live show has long been one of rock's most confrontational and unpredictable)? Well, it can all be found on Fefu. The main focal point of the DVD is the promo video for the title track (off of the group's speaker-melting 2004 release, The Dwarves Must Die), which sees the Suicide Girls troupe equally share screen time with Dahlia and company -- except for scenes where the gals beat the singer senseless. But longtime fans will probably be most interested in the overabundance of classic live footage (the amount of times a Dwarves member brawls with an out-of-line audience member cannot be counted on one hand) and interviews. Few rock DVDs nowadays pack as much no-holds-barred fury in a single sitting as Fefu: The DVD does. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
